COMING SOON . . .
Sample edit/Free (Average time needed: 1-2 weeks) To help ensure we are a good fit, I offer a complimentary two-chapter sample edit before any contract is signed. This allows you to see my editing style, approach, and feedback process firsthand while giving me an opportunity to become familiar with your voice and manuscript.
Developmental Edit
$0.012 per word (Average time needed: 6-8 weeks)
- Your writing should capture attention immediately with a plot that feels fresh, compelling, and engaging.
- The story should flow naturally, without gaps that confuse the reader or slow the momentum.
- Descriptions need to enrich the scene without overwhelming it, and every detail should remain consistent from beginning to end.
- Point of view must stay steady and intentional, while unnecessary jargon and overused clichés should never distract from the story itself.
- Strong writing keeps readers immersed. Clarity, consistency, and flow are what carry them from the first page to the last. This should be your first and most important edit to get your story on solid ground.
Copyedit
$0.010 – $0.02 per word (Average time needed: 6-8 weeks.)
This edit comes after a developmental edit and before proofreading. Its purpose is not simply to catch errors—that final polish belongs to proofreading. Instead, this stage focuses on strengthening the writing itself by improving flow, clarity, consistency, and readability.
Using Track Changes, I make revisions directly within the manuscript and include comments to explain suggestions and highlight areas that may need attention. A Style Sheet is also included to maintain consistency throughout the project.
During this edit, I address:
- Clarity, consistency, and flow for smooth, pleasurable readability
- CMOS, CWMS, and Merriam-Webster standards while respecting the author’s artistic voice
- Sentence structure
- Areas that tell instead of show
- Point of view consistency
- Punctuation, spelling, and word choice
- Stiff or weak dialogue
- Character consistency
- Timeline errors
- Repeated words and phrases
- This edit strengthens how your writing sounds and reads while preserving your unique voice and style. After you have reviewed and completed your revisions, I also offer a discounted follow-up proofread of the same manuscript at half price ($0.0035 per word). This final pass helps ensure your manuscript is polished, professional, and ready for publication.
- However, this stage does not include restructuring the manuscript per special exhibition.
Proofreading
$0.007 per word (Average time needed: 3 weeks.)
After your manuscript has gone through a copyedit, proofreading is the final step before publication. This stage catches anything that may have been missed along the way—grammatical errors, typos, punctuation issues, and small distractions that interrupt the reading experience. A careful proofread provides the final polish, ensuring your manuscript is clean, professional, and ready for readers.
